Prominence was engaged by a Defence organisation to provide an independent, industry informed review of its process for identifying critical industrial sovereign capability requirements. The organisation sought to ensure that its sovereign priorities were expressed in a way that reflected Defence needs and could be clearly understood by capability, delivery and industry stakeholders.
As part of the review, our team supported the incorporation of a clearer taxonomy of industrial activity into the process including distinctions between manufacture, assembly, integration, sustainment and upgrade. This helped stakeholders describe not just which capabilities should be available in‑country, but how they are to be delivered across the value chain.
Working with those responsible for capability management and delivery, we facilitated structured discussions that brought together strategic planners, program owners and industry engagement leads. This collaboration enabled assumptions to be tested, dependencies to be surfaced and sovereign requirements to be expressed in language that industry partners could readily interpret.
Using these insights, our team assisted the organisation to refine its sovereign priority statements in key domains, such as aerospace sustainment and emerging uncrewed or autonomous capabilities. The updated priorities more clearly articulated which elements of manufacture, assembly and sustainment should be delivered in‑country, strengthening how Defence communicates expectations and supporting a shared understanding of sovereign capability between Defence, government and industry.
